Hurricane Drain Process :

On-Site Wastewater Disposal : Testing and Design:

If it ever becomes necessary to replace your sewage system Hurricane Drain design services provide fast and economical solutions to residential on-site wastewater disposal. Creativity: An important aspect for system design. Our staff of designers are all licensed Sewage Enforcement Officers with many years of installation and design experience. Economical: The primary objective in all of our system designs is to begin with the most conventional and cost effective septic solution. Leading Edge: Our design staff is certified in all of the on-site septic systems currently offered by the PA DEP (Dept of Environmental Protection). Our designers are required to have continuing education to stay current in their field. Site Investigation: The design process begins with a site investigation which is conducted with the local governing agency (Sewage Enforcement Officer or SEO). Site investigation requires that a minimum of two test pits be excavated to a depth of seven feet. Hurricane Drain always tries to have at least three areas for test pits, if possible. Soils Description: The SEO then describes the soils horizons in the test pits and determines at what depth the percolation testing is to be conducted. These soils descriptions are written up into a field sheet which accompanies the permit application. Perc Test: Once the area best suited for the on-site system has been determined by the site investigation the perc test is performed. A minimum of six holes are dug at the determined depths and they are pre-soaked 24 hours prior to the perc. The following day the holes are prepped for percolation and six inches of water is used in each hole. The rates of percolation are measured in half hour intervals. Once the percolation rates are stabilized the final perc rate is measured in minutes per inch and averaged out between all six holes. This gives the final perc rate for the absorption area. The perc test process is conducted with the local agency SEO. Design and Application: The final perc rate is used along with the design flow rate assigned to the size of the residence to determine the minimum required square foot size for the absorption area. We always try to design above the minimum since this gives much more longevity to the new system. The designer will then draw out a plot plan and system specifications in order to apply for the permit to install. Once the application is received by the SEO, a permit is issued within seven working days.

Costs: Below are the itemized costs for Hurricane Drain to design and apply for the new permit.
Site Investigation: $450.00-This includes as many test pits as needed.
Perc Test: $400.00-This is for the initial perc testing. If a second perc is required we do not charge.
Design: $350.00- for gravity feed or pressure-dosed systems.
Drip Irrigation designs $250.00 more plus the cost of the Soils Scientist. *Please note that the above fees are for Hurricane Drain Design and Testing. Local Agency permit fees are not included and are additional to our pricing.
